CSU Monterey Bay selects HP to increase storage capacity for research applications

Last week Hewlett Packard announced the company has been selected to upgrade servers for a research facility at California State University, Monterey Bay that stores education plans and resources for more than 5,000 students and faculty. The university needs to upgrade its storage system to add capacity and flexibility to accommodate the growth in data and deployment of new applications for scholastic research, according to the announcement.

The upgrade is expected to save 40 percent in energy costs while increasing the university’s storage utilization by as much as 50 percent as it virtualizes data across various departments.

Last month, HP announced it was selected by UC Santa Barbara’s Center for Scientific Research Computing to improve capacity with a $1 million computing cluster, a new system that allows researchers running calculations and simulations, 12 TeraFlops of computing power.
