The CIO/bureau chief for POST plans, organizes and directs all aspects of the commission’s computer engineering activities. The incumbent participates as an integral part of POST’s leadership team, with major involvement in establishing highly technical computer and telecommunications policy issues relating to POST’s Information Management Strategy. Key functions of the role include:
- Assuring POST can electronically deliver its programs to local and state law enforcement and maintain its statewide Peace Officer Database security
- Manage all POST computer operations, including establishing and interpreting all policies and procedures related to IT and information management systems used by or for POST; and evaluate changing needs compared to existing or potential hardware and software configurations
- Supervise POST data processing personnel in a variety of functions including needs assessment, system analysis, software design and development, hardware and software procurement, system installations, system operation, computer-based training, personal computer system repair and other areas as needed
- Select and acquire appropriate hardware and software; oversee the installation and upgrades to the network; monitor the use of the network; evaluate ideas and encourage participation by outside entities; and recommend policy changes as technology presents new opportunities
Assistant Chief Information Officer

The assistant CIO oversees technical operations and services for the California Department of Aging’s Division of Information Technology (DIT). The incumbent develops, coaches and mentors IT professionals to support current and future technology capabilities.
Specific functions of the role include:
- Team building, customer service and succession planning
- Direct teams and processes to ensure the continual availability and security of IT services
- Guide and direct project, governance, development, infrastructure service desk functions and database administration within the division
- Provide expert guidance and direction to varying levels of staff and leadership related to IT services, planning and delivery; and build collaborative partnerships with oversight entities to effectively oversee CDA’s IT coordination and alignment with the California Health and Human Services Agency, the California Department of Technology and other oversight entities
