Department Seeking Candidates With Architecture, Management Expertise

The department is recruiting for a manager and a specialist for its Enterprise Architecture Office.

The state Employment Development Department (EDD) is recruiting for two key roles — one manager and one specialist — in its Enterprise Architecture Office.

The Enterprise Architecture Office manager (IT manager I) serves as the functional and technical manager over the Enterprise Architecture Office (EAO) in support of the department’s mission-critical, high-profile projects in one of the most complex technical environments. “The incumbent applies mastery-level knowledge to plan activities within the most complex Enterprise Architecture Service areas,” the job posting says.

EDD’s enterprise architecture program is “a customer-focused, business-enabling program that supports EDD’s strategic goals by providing technology research, analysis, and roadmaps that align planning activities and technology standards with an agreed upon future state architecture,” according to the duty statement. “The incumbent will lead the enterprise architecture program, the architectural solutions and technology standards body. … The incumbent is responsible for ensuring staff succession planning, staff upward mobility, and staff training. The incumbent ensures staff continue to maintain current knowledge of evolving industry trends, best practices, and standards; disseminates this information; and modifies the enterprise architectures (e.g. business, information, applications, and technology) accordingly to sustain their long-term integrity and reliability.”

Duties of the role include supervising technical specialists, planning long-range activities, ensuring the projects remain on schedule, ensuring providing and ensuring technical solutions are consistent with the department’s and branch’s strategic direction, and keeping management informed and apprised of changes required to support ongoing systems.

More information about the position is available in the duty statement. The role has a monthly salary range of $8,591 to $11,512, and the application deadline is Dec. 8.

EDD is also recruiting for an enterprise architect specialist (IT specialist I) to “be involved in designing innovative business solutions and leading the adoption of emerging technology standards,” according to the job posting. The specialist will be “responsible for formulating strategies and leading the development, maintenance, evolution, and use of EDD’s enterprise architecture.”

Duties of the role include:
  • Translating business plans and strategic objectives into specific outcomes that lead to innovative business solutions.
  • Creating future-state capabilities and architectures that will achieve them and determining gaps from current state.
  • Developing road maps that guide the progress of EDD’s business, data, systems and technologies through active collaboration with subject matter experts of all levels.
  • Providing highly technical guidance and consulting to project teams, other architects, governance bodies, and other business and technical areas.
  • Maintaining current knowledge of evolving technologies and industry trends and determining potential impact to the enterprise and its architecture.

More information about this position is available in the duty statement. The position has a monthly salary range of $5,960 to $9,643, and the application deadline is Dec. 2.
