Departments Recruiting for Expertise in Procurement, Data Architecture

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection is seeking a procurement and customer service manager, and the Department of Toxic Substances Control is seeking a principal data architect.

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) is seeking a procurement and customer service manager (IT Manager II) to lead teams across multiple functional areas and to exercise full management responsibility for the organizing, planning, directing, coordinating and managing of all IT for the Budget Planning, Procurement, and Customer Service units.

Responsibilities of the role include:
  • Administration, planning and operations (35 percent)
  • IT Procurement Project and vendor management (30 percent)
  • Statewide customer service, overseeing CAL FIRE’s IT desktop support (30 percent)
  • Other duties (5 percent)

Candidates should have an advanced degree in technology, according to the job posting and duty statement. The position has a monthly salary range of $10,421 to $12,668, and the application deadline is July 5.

The California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) is seeking a principal data architect (IT Specialist III).

Responsibilities of the role, according to the job posting, include:
  • Lead the design, development, implementation and maintenance of complex data systems and solutions for large data projects and programs
  • Work with IT teams, business analysts and data analytics teams to understand data consumers’ needs
  • Simplify the existing data architecture, delivering reusable services and cost-saving opportunities in line with the policies and standards of the organization
  • Develop conceptual, logical, and physical data models to support data analysis and business intelligence
  • Create and maintain current- and target-state data architectures

According to the job posting and duty statement, desirable qualifications include:
  • Ability to design, build and manage data pipelines for data structures encompassing data transformation, data models, schemas, metadata, and workload management
  • Experience with various data management architectures like Data Warehouse, Data Lake, Data Hub and the supporting processes like data integration, governance, and metadata management
  • Experience with cloud data lakes and datastores (e.g., Synapse, Azure Data Lake, Snowflake, DynamoDB, etc.)
  • Excellent communication and partnership skills with the ability to interface and influence at multiple levels
  • Solid grasp of agile development approaches, including DevOps concepts
