Rebecca Skarr has been appointed CIO of the Department of General Services (DGS), a department spokesperson confirmed. Her first day was on Friday.
Skarr has worked in California state government information technology for more than 20 years. Prior to being hired as DGS’s new CIO, she previously worked as the Manager of Solutions Services at the California State Teachers Retirement System (CalSTRS).
Before working at CalSTRS, Skarr headed statewide initiatives at the Office of Systems Integration and held several positions at the California Department of Mental Health.
Skarr also worked in the private industry where she was a contract developer and systems analyst at GTE Sprint in Burlingame.
Skarr is replacing Jeff Funk who left the position last summer.
