Developing Opportunities: IT, Telecom Upgrades, Building Renovation

An educational system’s multiyear plan has potential opportunities this fiscal year for companies with tech goods and services to offer the state.

The country’s largest four-year public university system has funding for a plethora of technology and modernization-related projects in the 2022-2023 Fiscal Year.

It’s a 23-campus system that serves almost a half million students and has plans for a variety of initiatives infused with IT and innovation.

The California State University’s (CSU) Multi-Year Plan, which spans the 2021-2022 through 2025-2026 Fiscal Years, documents funding for IT-related initiatives at many campuses, which should be progressing during the 2022-2023 Fiscal Year that began July 1. Major funding in all instances derives from the Systemwide Revenue Bonds – Academic Program (SRB-AP); all are in the “PWC” phase, or “preliminary plans, working drawings, construction” unless otherwise indicated. Per Industry Insider — California’s Opportunities listings, this includes:

  • $42.9 million, with rounding, for the Ives Hall Renovation at CSU Sonoma in the 2021-2022 Capital Outlay Plan, according to page 13 of the document. Total project budget is also $42.9 million; cumulative total budget is more than $2 billion.
  • $6.2 million for Telecom-Fiber and Tertiary Pathway Infrastructure at CSU Stanislaus, as part of the FY 2021-2022 Infrastructure Improvements Program Project List, per page 18. Total project budget is $6.2 million.
  • $4.2 million for Infrastructure Perimeter Loop, Phase 1 at CSU Sacramento as part of the 2021-2022 FY Infrastructure Improvements Program Project List, according to page 16. Total project budget is $4.8 million.
  • $3.8 million for Telecom-Stockton IDF, MPOE, Redundancy, Wireless also at CSU Stanislaus, as part of the FY 2021-2022 Infrastructure Improvements Program Project List, according to page 18. Total project budget is also $3.8 million.
  • $3.4 million for Telecom Voice Over IP Data Core Equipment Replace at CSU Los Angeles, as part of the 2021-2022 FY Infrastructure Improvements Program Project List, according to page 16. Total project budget is $3.4 million.
  • $3.5 million for Information Technology Upgrades this fiscal year at San Francisco State University. That’s more than $3.14 million for construction and $349,000 for preliminary plans and working drawings according to page 194. The project is part of deferred maintenance, renewal and improvements.
  • $3 million for Telecom-Data Center Relocation from Admin. Bldg at CSU Los Angeles, as part of the 2021-2022 FY Infrastructure Improvements Program Project List, according to page 16. Total project budget is $3 million.
  • $2.8 million this fiscal year for Wireless and End Point Management in FY 2022-2023, at CSU Stanislaus, according to page 248.
  • $2.5 million for Telecom Upgrades, Phase 1 at CSU Sacramento, as part of the 2021-2022 FY Infrastructure Improvements Program Project List, according to page 16. Total project budget is $2.8 million.
  • $353,000 in FY 2022-2023 for Information Technology Border Firewall Upgrades at CSU Sonoma according to page 237. The project is part of deferred maintenance, renewal and improvements.
