The state Department of General Services has rolled out its updated website, which emphasizes “clearly defined services, advanced search and personalization, user-centric content organization and a user-friendly experience.”

DGS, the state’s primary procurement agency, awarded a contract to SymSoft Solutions in July 2017 for the $1.487 million project, which includes stakeholder requirements, design and implementation, three years of managed services support and software licensing and an optional year of support services.

DGS “is on a journey toward constant technological improvement in order to improve the way it does business for the state of California. We hope our new public-facing website will better serve the public and our stakeholders,” the department said in a news release.

SymSoft worked with the department’s technology staff and various program offices and customers “to create a new website that provides a services-oriented user experience,” DGS spokesperson Jennifer Iida told Techwire.

“Using the customer’s input along with the state standards for website design and accessibility, SymSoft designed and implemented a completely new solution using the Sitecore Web content management platform. The new DGS website is hosted in the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud environment.”

Iida described the project as more than a refresh.

“This project was a complete redesign of the website technology and content to better meet the needs of our customers and other stakeholders,” she said. “DGS executed the contract in July 26, 2017, and went live with the new site on Feb. 15, 2019.”
