Though waiting in line at the Department of Motor Vehicles is a standard modern complaint, those lines could be starting to become a thing of the past.
Californians used the DMV website to make nearly 12 million online transactions in 2012, a 6 percent increase from 2011.
The most common online transactions were vehicle registrations, which numbered more than 7.6 million; release of liability forms, which numbered nearly 1.5 million; and change of address forms, which numbered over 1 million.
While the vehicle registrations conducted online stayed fairly constant from 2011 to 2012, online release of liability forms increased by 7 percent, and change of address forms increased by 20 percent.
The most drastic increases were from self-service terminals, which increased by 64.8 percent, and from identification card renewal, which over tripled from 10,125 transactions in 2011 to 33,584 transactions in 2012.
