The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) made fewer than 20 purchases of IT goods and services in January, but its costliest buys reflect ongoing hardware and software updates as well as its ongoing IT modernization.

DMV made just three purchases of IT services in February – and those cost exactly $1,475,000. Here, with rounding, is what that money paid for, based on data in the State Contract and Procurement Registration System:

  • $500,000 to Pyxis Management Consulting Group for professional services for IBM Data Visualization Manager for zOS, which per the company, offers “virtual, integrated views of data” living in IBM Z software. This is a one-year pact from Feb. 15-Feb. 14, 2023.
  • $500,000 to Outreach Solutions as a Service, for “Salesforce services for DMV employer pull notice program” which, generally, lets commercial and government entities look in on the driving records of staff that drive for them. This is a one-year contract from Feb. 4-Feb. 3, 2023.
  • $475,000 to Business Advantage Consulting for “IT consulting for project management services” for 2019’s state Senate Bill 210, which placed new data and electronic compliance requirements on DMV with the establishment of the Heavy-Duty Vehicle Inspection and Maintenance Program. This is a two-year contract from Feb. 1-Jan. 31, 2024.
DMV made 12 purchases of IT goods, and its five most expensive cost $846,437. Here, with rounding, is where that money went, also based on data in the State Contract and Procurement Registration System:

  • $750,000 to NWN, now NWN Carousel, for laptop computers. DMV made the purchase Feb. 3.
  • $54,000 to Acuity Technical Solutions for content management software including the ShareGate Microsoft Sharepoint Migration Tool, for 25 users. This is a three-year contract, from Feb. 8-Feb. 7, 2025.
  • $19,900 to Agfa for “digital plate maker maintenance.” This is a one-year contract from Feb. 12-Feb. 11, 2023.
  • $15,400 to QualApps for “enterprise application integration software” from AutoRABIT, which per its website, offers “best-in-class Salesforce DevOps solutions on one platform.” This is a one-year contract from Feb. 25-Feb. 24, 2023.
  • $7,200 to Ablegov to renew Axiom software. This is a one-year contract from Feb. 1-Jan. 31, 2023.
