The Department of Water Resources has awarded a $21.2 million, 5 year contract to LightRiver Technologies to upgrade the State Water Project Communications System that links 130 facilities across the California, according to documents obtained by Techwire.net.
The project will replace the department’s current electronic communications system for the State Water Project and serve an estimated 130 facilities by supplying control and management systems for water and power systems and business communications. The State Water Project (SWP), consisting of an estimated 660 miles of canal and pipelines with a system of dams, reservoirs, power plants and pumping plants, stores and distributes water throughout the Golden State. The SWP also produces energy at its hydro-electric plants.
The project to upgrade the current communication system issued an RFP in 2009, according to documents. The contract was awarded in March to LightRiver Technologies. The project is scheduled to be completed near the end of 2016.
Ted Thomas, chief of DWR’s Media and Public Information Branch said he wasn’t familiar with the $21.2 million contract and referred interview requests to the IT department which did not respond.
LightRiver Technologies, headquartered in Concord, provides design, integration and support of transport networks, according to its website.
