EDD Opens Recruitment for Two Key Managerial Roles

Database management and networking engineering are the areas for which the Employment Development Department is seeking candidates.

The Employment Development Department (EDD) is seeking candidates for two key management roles.

EDD is recruiting for a manager (IT Manager I) of the Enterprise Database Services Mainframe Group to “be instrumental in managing and optimizing our database systems, ensuring data-driven operations are seamless and effective,” the job posting says. “This position will play a central role in ensuring the integrity, security and efficient operation of our IBM Db2 databases.”

Key responsibilities of the role, according to the job posting and duty statement, include:
  • Leadership and management: Lead, coach, mentor and manage a diverse team of database administrators and engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning, improvement and operational excellence.
  • Database oversight: Maintain and ensure the integrity, security and availability of multiple database systems.
  • Optimization: Regularly monitor database performance, implementing optimizations and adjustments as required for peak performance.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams to ensure database structures are consistent and optimized for broader enterprise operations and objectives.
  • Upgrades and installations: Plan and implement database upgrades, ensuring that any changes or additions align with company needs and industry best practices.

Desirable qualifications include:
  • A minimum of five years’ experience managing and leading a team in the field of data administration, database performance engineering, or related disciplines with a strong record of team development and individual growth.
  • Experience with IBM DB2 Version 12 and IBM DB2 Administration Tool and with database performance monitoring tools like Query Monitor, SQL Performance Analyzer, access path evaluation, etc. Also, experience with mainframe data integration with cloud and other open environments.
  • REXX, ISPF, CLIST, or other database automation development skills/experience.
  • Knowledge of principles, practices and trends of public and business administration, budget, personnel, program management, management analysis, planning and program evaluation.
  • Willingness to experiment and switch to a suitable technology without being biased toward technologies of experience.

The monthly salary range is $8,849 to $11,857, and the application deadline is Jan. 19.

EDD’s other recruitment is for a network engineering manager (IT Manager I) for the Enterprise Infrastructure Services Section. The manager supervises and directs staff in the Network Engineering Group, ensuring the group consistently provides network infrastructure engineering and architectural services for the department.

Desirable qualifications, according to the job posting, include:
  • Expert-level experience in network infrastructure design and administration and technical knowledge of data center network hardware, including switching, routing, firewalls, VPN and remote access, and in leading project teams to deliver data center network infrastructure solutions.
  • Experience in leading the development of and maintenance of a data center, network operations strategy and road map.
  • Expert-level technical knowledge of hybrid cloud environments and various cloud platforms.
  • Knowledge of software-defined data center infrastructure.
  • Knowledge and experience in VMWare, AWS design and project management.
