EDD Opens Recruitments for Several IT Positions

The Employment Development Department is looking for IT talent to help manage its core systems.

Several state departments have put out the call for IT talent this week. They include positions with the Employment Development Department (EDD), the California Department of Technology (CDT) and the Department of Developmental Services.

EDD is looking for a Benefits Solutions Section Chief (IT Manager II) to manage the department’s core applications. These include the online unemployment insurance system, the state disability insurance system and the myEDD portal, among others.

“You will oversee and guide a dedicated team in modernizing benefit systems, integrating cutting-edge software-as-a-service solutions, and expanding access to online services. Your focus will be to provide guidance and oversight to ensure section staff align with EDD's business vision and effectively execute their duties,” the posting reads.

Desirable qualifications include (as written in the job posting):
  • Experience with large-scale enterprise IT projects, including application and integration architecture.
  • Understanding of cloud technologies like AWS, Salesforce, or Microsoft .NET, and familiarity with DevSecOps and CI/CD processes.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking abilities for delivering technology solutions and driving digital strategies.
  • Experience preparing and presenting to senior executives and technical audiences, with strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with multifaceted teams, manage multiple priorities, and deliver results under pressure.
The salary range for this position is between $11,056 and $13,439 per month.

The department is also looking for an enterprise collaboration specialist (Information Technology Specialist I) to “play a vital role in efforts that include providing enterprise support, administration, and architecture for the EDD's enterprise collaboration service applications including SharePoint 2016, SharePoint Online, Teams, OneDrive, and Power Platform.”

Desirable qualifications for the position include (as written in the job posting):
  • Hands-on development experience with Power Platform (Power Apps and Power Automate).
  • Knowledge of and experience supporting Power Platform, SharePoint Online, MS Teams, and OneDrive.
  • Experience administering and architecting Power Platform, SharePoint Online, and On-Prem environments.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and adapt to changing assignments and priorities, and to work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate and maintain professional working relationships with highly technical and business-oriented customers.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve using both critical and creative thinking.
  • Experience planning, directing, mentoring and coaching technical teams.
  • Experience using industry standard methodologies to perform analysis.
  • Technical writing skills: Ability to produce technical documentation that helps people understand and use a product or service and the ability to clearly explain technologies, processes and products to customers.
The monthly salary range for this position varies based on the candidate’s classification.

And finally, EDD is also seeking a hardware core specialist (Information Technology Specialist I) to provide “technical expertise as a Server Administrator for the Cloud/Hardware Core Group at EDD.”

“Responsibilities include associate-level technical system administration tasks to maintain a robust server environment. In addition to performing maintenance, operations, and enhancement tasks in the datacenter, the server administrator assists in designing modern application integration architectures, functional specifications, application testing, and production migrations for business applications,” the posting reads.

Desirable qualifications include (as written in the posting):
  • Experience in modern data center environments.
  • Experience with VMware vSphere, vCenter and vSAN.
  • Proven ability to maintain regular, consistent, predictable attendance, and occasionally work beyond scheduled work hours.
  • Ability for overnight travel for server upgrades.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Excellent professional verbal and written communication skills.
