Employment Department Seeks to Fill 2 Specialty Roles

The department is recruiting for a security specialist and a solutions architect.

The California Employment Development Department (EDD) is seeking to fill two technology specialty positions.

The department is seeking candidates for an Enterprise Desktop Application security specialist (IT specialist II) to join the IT Branch’s Infrastructure Services Division, Enterprise Desktop Applications Security (EDAS) Group.

“The EDAS team’s line of business is to engineer, architect, install, test, secure, implement and provide maintenance and operations for all endpoint devices and virtual desktop infrastructure across the enterprise,” the job posting says. “Team members are systems administrators of the systems management software suite for EDD’s endpoint devices. … The team provides daily support locally and remotely for the most complex problems.” That includes virtual desktop and virtual application delivery, patch management, operating system deployment and development, software distribution, network access protection and hardware and software inventory.

Desirable qualifications for the position include:
  • Knowledge and experience with Horizon, AppVolumes, VMware Dynamic Environment Manager
  • Knowledge and experience with Virtual Desktop Architecture and Virtual Application presentation
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively, both verbally and in writing, including the ability to negotiate credibly and persuasively, with a variety of stakeholders
  • Strong documentation skills
  • Experience with PowerShell
  • Knowledge and experience with AD and Group Policy

EDD is also seeking candidates for a solutions architect (IT specialist II) for its Accounting and Compliance Enterprise System (ACES) Application Section.

The architect leads and mentors a technical team, which involves “overseeing projects and activities supported by the section, including enhancing the ACES application and guiding EDD when adopting new tools and technologies,” the job posting says. The architect “provides maintenance and operational support for the infrastructure and application layers” of ACES.

Candidates should have “technical expertise and leadership in developing data strategies, researching the use of Business Intelligence tools, and establishing database and Business Intelligence standards and practices,” the duty statement says. The architect “provides leadership and guidance pertaining to data integration and data administration of the more complex departmental technologies, such as SQL, DB2, Informix, Oracle, and IDMS, which have enterprise-wide impacts.”

Desirable qualifications for the role include:
  • GenTax or commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) administration.
  • Ability to analyze complex system designs and understand the relational components.
  • SQL Server experience.
  • Network experience and knowledge of standard protocols.
  • Server administration experience utilizing virtualization and/or cloud infrastructure.
  • Proven ability to work and lead effectively in a team environment.
  • Experience in project management, incident management, release management, and change control management methodologies.

The position has a monthly salary range of $7,893 to $10,576, and the application deadline is Oct. 6.
