The city of Fairfield has hired the former Vallejo CIO Naveed Ashraf to lead its IT operations as information technology director. He begins the new role Aug. 4.
Ashraf is no stranger to the IT needs of local governments, having worked in both Vallejo and Benicia in leadership roles prior to joining Fairfield’s IT Department. Before that, he spent more than 16 years in the private sector with the Meyer Corporation as its director of information systems.
“I have a passion for technology and a unique ability to break down complex concepts into everyday language,” Ashraf said in an announcement. “In today’s digital age, I believe in making technology available in its simplest form and ensuring it serves everyone. I look forward to working with Fairfield to deliver innovative, accessible solutions for our staff and community.”
Ashraf has lived in the Fairfield area for three decades, giving him a unique perspective on the sorts of technological initiatives that will best serve residents, City Manager David Gassaway said in the announcement.
“Naveed brings valuable experience and perspective,” Gassaway said. “He will be a sound addition to the city’s senior leadership team. Living in the area gives him local insight and will help guide his focus on delivering technology that supports our residents and business community.”
Ashraf holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business from the University of Phoenix. He is also an active member of the Municipal Information Systems Association of California (MISAC).
