FI$Cal Deputy Mupparaju Tapped to Lead as Director

The second in command for the Financial Information System for California (FI$Cal) is taking over as director, the Governor’s Office announced late Thursday.

Subbarao Mupparaju, the chief deputy director for the state’s unified financial system, has been tapped to take over as director.

The new director is hardly unfamiliar with FI$Cal, having also served as its CIO for more than six years, then joining the California Department of Housing and Community Development, and returning to FI$Cal as chief deputy director in January 2023.

Mupparaju also served as the state chief enterprise architect for the California Department of Technology between 2012 and 2015. Before that, he was chief technologist for HP, executive IT architect for IBM and senior systems analyst for Tata Consultancy Services.

Mupparaju holds a master's in engineering from PSG College of Technology.

His position requires Senate confirmation.
