Daniel Quach, CIO for the California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation, has retired from public service after more than three decades in state and local government.

Quach was tapped to lead the department in April 2023, after serving as the CIO for San Francisco’s Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing for four and a half years.

“After 32 years of public service, I will be retiring from state service,"
the former CIO wrote in a LinkedIn post. "When I joined the state of California straight out of college, I never imagined I would one day have the opportunity to serve as a chief information officer across multiple departments, including a period of service with the city and county of San Francisco.”

Prior to his time there, he served as the IT director for the city and county’s Assessor-Recorder, as the chief information technology officer for the California Public Utilities Commission, and as an enterprise architect for the state’s Department of Industrial Relations.

“As I conclude this chapter, I do so with sincere gratitude for the trust, support and partnership I have experienced throughout my career,” Quach wrote. “I will always value the relationships and memories built with the teams I have had the honor to lead and serve alongside. While the work was often complex and demanding, it was also consistently purposeful and rewarding.”

Quach holds a Master of Business Administration in business administration and management and a Bachelor of Science in accounting and business management, both from San Francisco State University.

His position is currently being advertised. More information about that role is available here.
