Financial Protection Department Seeks Senior Project Manager

The state Department of Financial Protection and Innovation is looking for candidates with the ability to communicate effectively; compile data; and analyze, summarize and present findings to stakeholders including vendors as well as management teams.

The state Department of Financial Protection and Innovation (DFPI) is recruiting for a senior project manager (IT Specialist II) to manage product and software development teams, ensuring that the teams follow project plans, industry standard practices and frameworks.

Under the general direction of the IT planning and portfolio manager, the incumbent “serves in a lead project management role and independently performs a wide variety of tasks requiring subject matter expertise in project management,” the job posting says. The manager works with program managers, subject matter experts and technical staff to schedule meetings and scrum events; monitor progress and performance; remove impediments for the team; track project processes, deliverables and financials; and prepare and present status reports to stakeholders.

DFPI’s mission is “overseeing financial service providers; enforcing laws and regulations; promoting innovation and fair and honest business practices; enhancing consumer awareness; and protecting consumers by preventing potential marketplace risks, fraud, and abuse.”

Desirable qualifications for the position include:
  • Five years of progressive experience as a project manager working with IT solutions.
  • Experienced in managing projects using both new and legacy enterprise technology.
  • Demonstrated experience in both Waterfall and Agile Scrum software development life cycles.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, compile data, and analyze, summarize and present findings to stakeholders including vendors as well as management teams.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification (or similar) desired, or a bachelor’s degree with a focus on project management.
  • Certified Scrum Master and/or Agile Certified Practitioner.
  • Experience with the California Department of Technology’s Project Approval Lifecycle (PAL).

The job functions include managing IT projects and business technology.
