Ron Hughes, president of the California Data Center Design Group and former manager of California’s Y2K testing efforts, has been appointed director of the California Office of Technology Services, Governor Brown announced today.
The appointment of Hughes, whose resume also includes director at Telegis Networks, requires Senate confirmation.
Hughes’ experience in government and the private sector will bring unique skill to the position, said Agency Secretary Carlos Ramos.
"We are very pleased with the Governor’s selection of Ron Hughes to lead OTech," Ramos said in a statement. "Ron brings an extraordinary combination of private sector experience, with a deep understanding of California government and our technology environment. He has literally designed, built and operated data centers from the ground up, all over the world. I am confidant Ron will bring the best of his private sector experience to provide innovative and efficient technology solutions at our Office of Technology Services."
The Office of Technology Services, referred to as OTech, is one of three offices within the Technology Agency and provides technology support including computing, networking and training to state, local and federal government.
