Dean Gialamas has been tapped to serve as the next IT bureau chief and CIO for the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).

If the name sounds familiar, it’s likely because Gialamas is no stranger to Southern California government, having served in several capacities with the Los Angeles County Internal Services Department (ISD), Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

Most recently, Gialamas retired from ISD as general manager in June 2024 and has been serving as the chief leadership officer for the leadership development and management consulting firm CEO Authority since that time.

Gialamas made the announcement in a post on LinkedIn, saying that “retirement lasted just 21 months” and that he is “humbled, grateful and ready to learn, grow and transform again.”

“Some opportunities arrive when you least expect them — and demand something of you. The chance to serve again, to contribute, to help an organization transform, to support the women and men who protect the city, along with those who live and visit it … that kind of responsibility doesn’t come along often. With FIFA World Cup in 2026, the Super Bowl in 2027 and the Summer Olympics in 2028, there is much to do and prepare for,” he wrote in the post.

His first day on the job was March 9.
