Gov Tech Leader Nina D’Amato Named Chief Technology Strategist by Lenovo

Nina D’Amato, a longtime leader in government and military technology, has joined Lenovoas the company’s chief technology strategist for public sector.

D’Amato most recently served as chief information officer for Santa Clara County, having previously served as IT director for the Office of the CIO and as acting county CIO.

The tech leader has been a frequent speaker and participant in industry conferences and forums, including at the Bay Area Regional CIO Conference, an event presented by Industry Insider — California’s sister publication, Government Technology magazine. She was featured in an Industry Insider One-on-One interview in November 2023.

In an email to Industry Insider last week, D’Amato explained her new role: “In the age of AI, we are headed for a foundational shift in our relationship to technology and leveraging its capabilities,” she wrote. “This role allows me to support my public-sector CIO peers as they think through the organizational and technical solutions for the users and customers in this new era.”

Before joining Santa Clara County government, D’Amato served as chief of staff in the San Francisco Department of Technology for nearly four years. Her career also includes four years as intelligence program officer with the U.S. Marines, followed by nearly two years as director of the education portfolio for the Marines Southwest Regional Command, International Security Assistance Force Afghanistan; and more than a year as a U.S. Congressional Fellow for Pennsylvania Democratic U.S. Sen. Bob Casey.

D’Amato has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Washington, a master’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Master of Business Administration at UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business. Her professional licenses and certifications include being a Certified ScrumMaster by the Scrum Alliance and being certified in Strategic Management and Innovation by Coursera.

D'Amato is also the recipient of several professional awards, including from a UC Berkeley alumni group and from the U.S. Marine Corps.

In explaining why she chose to join Lenovo, D’Amato told Industry Insider: “Lenovo’s thoughtful investments in products and solutions that define this new era, its collaborative partnerships with industry, and the commitment to customers position the company as a global leader.”

In her LinkedIn profile, D’Amato, who’s based in the Bay Area, says her interests include animal welfare, education, the environment, health, and disaster and humanitarian relief.
