Health Care Services releases IT strategic plan

This week, the Department of Health Care Services released the Information Technology Strategic Plan 2012-2015 which outlines the departments goals, objectives and risk mitigation strategies.

“The Plan establishes a new direction for delivering state of the art IT solutions to support DHCS’ mission, which is to provide eligible Californians with access to affordable, high quality health care, including medical, mental health, long-term care, and substance use treatment services,” said Chris Cruz, chief information officer, in the plan.

Last October in an interview with Techwire host Christina Gagnier, Cruz said that DHCS has a $1 billion technology portfolio and was the first agency to adopt a BYOD smart phone policy.   The department is also embarking on a major telework program and implementing a email cloud system that will involve replacing 350 Blackberry devices with iPhones.
