Here Are State Public Health’s Top Buys of IT Goods This Year

The California Department of Public Health spent millions on IT goods in 2021, including purchases of servers and software products.

The department responsible for safeguarding and improving public health in California spent millions on IT goods through Dec. 15, with its five most expensive purchases in this area reaching well into the eight figures.

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) made 411 purchases of IT goods altogether and it spent more than $20 million on just the five costliest buys. CDPH spent $25,142,191 on those purchases, based on data in the State Contracting and Procurement Registration System. With rounding, here’s where that money went:

  • $12.4 million with QualApps for a capped Salesforce Enterprise software subscription of about a year. The term is Nov. 8-Nov. 7, 2022; CDPH formalized the purchase Dec. 9. QualApps also worked this year with the California Department of Motor Vehicles.
  • $4.4 million with NWN Solutions Corp. for “HPE ProLiant DL580 Gen10 8SFF configure-to-order server,” probably a purchase of the company’s ProLiant 10th generation servers. CDPH made the purchase Sept. 24.
  • $3 million with Taborda Solutions for “Partner Community Members Unlimited Edition – Restricted Use.” CDPH made the purchase Feb. 3.
  • $2.8 million with Zones Inc. for “Dyn365ECaseMngmntGCC ShrdSvr ALNG SubsVL MVL.” That’s probably a reference to a volume licensing purchase of Microsoft’s Dynamics 365 business platform for shared servers. It’s a three-year contract from June 1-May 31, 2024. Zones also worked this year with the California Department of Education.
  • $2.6 million with Zones for “Year 1 9GS-00135 CISSteDCCore ALNG SA MVL,” likely a volume licensing purchase of Microsoft’s Core Infrastructure Server Suite Datacenter. This is a three-year contract from June 1-May 31, 2024.
