Chairman Dan Lungren (R-CA) of the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Cybersecurity, Infrastructure Protection, and Security Technologies will address California state information security officers next week at a meeting in Downtown Sacramento, a spokesman for Lungren confirmed.
Sponsored by the California Office of Information Security (OIS) and hosted by Public Sector Partners, a two-hour round table and panel discussion on August 22 will also include an address by Rep. Lungren which is expected to focus on current cybersecurity policies and activities in the U.S. Capitol.
Last December, Rep. Lungren and eight other members of Congress, including Homeland Security Committee Chairman Rep. Peter T. King (R-NY), introduced federal legislation aimed to protect the country from potential cyber attacks and safeguard financial service systems and other infrastructure from such threats, according to a press release. Termed the "Promoting and Enhancing Cybersecurity and Information Sharing Effectiveness of 2011," or the PrECISE Act, H.R. 3674 gives authority for cybersecurity evaluations to the Department of Homeland Security.
Rep. Lungren represents the 3rd Congressional District which includes areas in Sacramento, Alpine, Amador and Calavaras Counties.
Event organizers expect about 100 department chief information security officers and other members of the IT security community, as well as cybersecurity-related vendors.
