Symposium to focus on open data for health and human services

An event designed to educate both the public and private sector about the Open Data movement will be held in Sacramento this January, with presentations and interactive sessions slated to showcase how attendees can apply research methods and tools when using open data.

The Stewards of Change Institute, the California HealthCare Foundation, and the Health Data Consortium are the hosts of the first Health & Human Services Open DataFest. It is scheduled Jan. 21 at the Sacramento Convention Center.

The event will run as a parallel track to the Big Data 2014 symposium to be held Jan. 22, 2014.  Attendees of Open DataFest will be given access to the opening and plenary session of the Big Data forum the following day.

There will also be a presentation on the California Health and Human Services Agency Open Data Portal Demonstration Project launch in a bid to stimulate research and applications of the public data.

Open DataFest is sponsored by ESRI and California HealthCare Foundation, IBM, and Software AG HHS.

Registration is required to attend.
