The Los Angeles County Public Defender’s Office has named a new CIO familiar to the Southern California gov tech scene, after several months of searching.
Tom Laguna, a technologist with a lengthy resume in Los Angeles County government, has been tapped to permanently replace Mohammed Al Rawi, who retired from the position last August. Laguna’s first day with the office was Feb. 23.
He most recently served as the director of strategy, innovation and architecture for Orange County Information Technology. Prior to that, he served as a senior information technology specialist for the L.A. County Internal Services Department, and as division chief for the county’s Board of Supervisors Executive Office.
Laguna holds a Bachelor of Science degree in telecommunications engineering from Mt. Sierra College.
