Larry Wasson appointed CIO of Dept. of Pesticide Regulation

The California Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) has named Larry Wasson as the new chief information officer, a spokesperson for the department confirmed.

Wasson has worked for eight years with the DPR, which monitors pesticide use, recommends proposals for regulation and studies possible public and agricultural health effects.

According to Wasson, the goal for the IT department of the DPR is "to use current cost-effective and secure technology to implement and maintain effective information systems to support DPR’s business needs."

The current fiscal year IT budget is $4,163,622, and includes projects to modify the Product Compliance and Mill Assessment System for paying quarterly mill assessment online, and a project to eventually rewrite the DPR’s legacy registration system for paying application and renewal fees online.

Wasson replaces JoAnne Payan who retired from state service.
