A task force created to investigate illegal outsourcing created last summer as part of a budget deal between the Brown Administration and a state employee union has been made permanent, according an announcement on the SEIU Local 1000 employee union’s Website.
An announcement posted on Wednesday says “[t]he agreement makes permanent the Budget Solutions Task Force that was established by the June 2012 Side Letter Agreement. The ongoing work of the task force is to achieve real savings by reviewing and analyzing private vendor contracts. It also reduces the use of outsourced work that can be done more efficiently and at less expense by state employees.”
The group, consisting of both union representatives and state officials, was created to review private sector IT contracts, among others, and give recommendations for potential cancellations if they are deemed in violation of the state’s contracting laws. Last fall, the FI$Cal project maintenance and operations and state child support IT contracts were named by the union as targets for potential cancellation.
CalHR spokesperson Pat McConahay today confirmed the administration has signed a tentative agreement to continue the task force, with final recommendations to ultimately be made by the Department of Finance.
