Local elected officials from around California joined the California Emerging Technology Fund, California State Association of Counties and other sponsors to discuss how to increase broadband development and adoption.
"The message from this meeting is that local officials are marshaling their political will and skills to get their voices heard as state and federal policymakers design and implement broadband initiatives," said CETF President and CEO Sunne Wright McPeak in a statement.
California’s GO-Biz Initiative Director Kish Rajan said at the meeting that broadband is a necessity to help the state’s economy, so local communities would need to participate in improving connectivity.
About 80 officials participated in the event to help close the digital divide of California. Other sponsors for the event included the League of California Cities, Regional Council for Rural Counties and Valley Vision.
Among the attendees was Adelina Zendejas, CalTech deputy director of broadband and digital literacy.
