Los Angeles County Public Works is planning an estimated $1.2 million procurement in February 2026 for an intelligent transportation system project.
The project, titled “South Bay ITS — Arterial System Detection,” would use AI video detection systems and origin/destination travel time devices in hopes of generating real-time data about traffic signal performance and travel times.
The county has several corridors in mind stretching roughly from El Segundo through Carson. By gathering said data, Public Works aims to improve traffic flow in those corridors.
There are 12 agencies and jurisdictions participating in the project: L.A. County Public Works, the Metropolitan Transit Authority and 10 cities.
Public Works has a $4.1 billion budget for the next fiscal year.
