Marin County officials have confirmed that the job posting published last Thursday for a chief information and innovation officer is meant to replace longtime CIO Liza Massey.

Massey has served as the county’s top technologist within the Information Services and Technology Department since May 2018. Before joining Marin County government, Massey served as the CIO for the Tennessee Department of Human Services.

County human resources officials confirmed that the recruitment is proactive and that Massey is still in place as CIO. Industry Insider — California was unable to reach her directly as of press time Friday.

While Massey was listed as the CIO, the new recruitment calls for a chief information and innovation officer to provide “enterprise-wide direction for policy, governance, cybersecurity, systems planning and long-term business solutions strategy across a complex and highly engaged organization.”

Insider most recently caught up with Massey and members of a digital accelerator strike force focused on improving critical services.
