Industry Insider — California members are invited to attend an upcoming briefing with officials from Los Angeles County’s Internal Services, Public Social Services and Probation departments.
Department of Public Social Services (DPSS) Assistant Director and CIO Laura Chavez will update members on efforts within the department’s Bureau of Technology Services, which is home to more than 450 IT professionals.
The department is the third largest in the county, and has a budget of nearly $6.1 billion for the upcoming fiscal year. The department handles critical services ranging from homeless and senior services to food and nutrition and cash assistance. The DPSS 2022-2027 Strategic Plan is available here.
Internal Services Department (ISD) Acting Deputy General Manager Vinnie Chin will share the work happening within the Customer Applications Branch (CAB), which oversees the development, support and maintenance of more than 400 enterprise and department-specific applications. CAB serves as the primary IT service provider for the 38 departments of the county.
ISD is a regional government powerhouse — with a budget of $817 million — purchasing more than $1.5 billion in goods and services as the county’s purchasing agent. The department, according to its website, stores more than 32.6 million documents, provides Internet access to more than 46,000 internal users, and processes bimonthly payroll for 110,000 employees.
Probation Department Deputy CIO Vijay Panati will update attendees on the IT efforts within the country’s largest probation department. The department has an annual budget of around $1.1 billion in the 2025-26 fiscal year, similar to the 2024-25 fiscal year.
