(TNS) — Meta is laying off nearly 200 workers in Silicon Valley, extending a wave of job cuts at the Bay Area tech giant.

Two filings with California’s Employment Development Department this week showed Meta plans to eliminate 124 jobs in Burlingame and 74 in Sunnyvale. The layoffs were scheduled to take effect in late May and are permanent.

The reductions add to roughly 700 job cuts across the company in recent weeks, affecting teams in recruiting, sales, operations and its Reality Labs division.

“Teams across Meta regularly restructure or implement changes to ensure they’re in the best position to achieve their goals,” a company spokesperson said in a statement. “Where possible, we are finding other opportunities for employees whose positions may be impacted.”

At the same time, the company is ramping up spending on artificial intelligence. Meta has said it expects capital expenditures to reach as much as $135 billion this year, largely tied to AI infrastructure.

Meta, which owns Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, employed about 79,000 people at the end of 2025. The company has not said whether additional layoffs are planned.

Earlier this year, Meta disclosed smaller rounds of layoffs in Menlo Park, Sunnyvale and Burlingame.
