Microsoft’s cloud service OneDrive launches

Microsoft on Wednesday launched its new cloud storage service OneDrive, offering 7 gigabytes of free storage to users.

The service, formerly called SkyDrive, will be built into all of the latest Microsoft devices and services from the Xbox gaming system to Windows Phone and Windows 8.1 Office, Chris Jones, the corporate vice president of OS Services for Microsoft, said in a statement.

"We’re also making sure it’s available on the Web and across all other platforms including iOS and Android, so your photos, videos and files are all available anytime you need them," Jones said.

Users can buy an additional 50 gigabytes, 100 gigabytes and 200 gigabytes for $25, $50, and $100 respectively each year.

The first 100,000 customers to access their OneDrive account will receive a free 100 gigabytes of extra storage for one year, according to the Microsoft.

Microsoft intends to update all of its apps for Windows Phone, iOS, Android and Xbox with the launch of OneDrive. With the update, Android phones will make automatic camera updates to sync with other devices.
