The Municipal Information Systems Association of California (MISAC) has released its strategic work plan for 2025 and 2026, which, among other goals, calls for stronger and more potent relationships with industry.

For those unfamiliar, MISAC focuses on building relationships and sharing data among municipal IT leaders. The group is currently led by Miguel Guardado, the IT director of Manhattan Beach.

Perhaps the most interesting portion of the plan for Industry Insider readers is the group’s focus on optimizing vendor relationships in the next 18 months.

This strategic goal is multifaceted and includes streamlining contracts and purchasing agreements, the creation of an enterprise app catalog, and taking steps to improve procurement efficiency and cooperative bargaining in the name of better pricing.

The group’s other strategic goals include improving member collaboration and enhancing recruiting and leadership development in the next 12 to 24 months, respectively.

According to the document, the top challenges facing members in the 2024-25 fiscal year centered on workforce-related issues, leadership and strategy, limited budgets and resources, general technology, security and privacy, emerging technologies and other external forces such as public trust, homelessness and climate change.

On the other side of that coin, the strategic priority areas of focus for the same timeframe included AI, cybersecurity, cloud, data analytics, Internet of Things, broadband, 5G, blockchain, biometrics and robotics.

While there isn’t a definitive list of local government members on the MISAC website, there is a list of its strategic vendor partners and sponsorship options for becoming one of them.
