Jensen has served as the CIO for the jurisdiction since January 2014 and was the driving force behind the creation of the IT department, formerly a division of the finance department.

“He helped build out the city’s IT infrastructure, enhancing the services we provide the community and finding solutions quickly and effectively, such as when the COVID-19 pandemic presented new technological hurdles for providing critical public services online. Roger consistently elevated our technology during his time with the city, and he will be greatly missed by all of us,” McCarthy added.
In addition to standing up the city’s IT department, Jensen led a number of other technology initiatives of note. Those projects included the expansion of Wi-Fi across the downtown area and city facilities, the implementation of real-time cybersecurity monitoring and multifactor authentication, and the development of AI policy and the implementation of the technology.
“As a team, the IT Department is the glue that delivers many services from all departments to our community. Over the past decade, we have witnessed significant technological advancements that have transformed the way we work, and our talented IT team was ready to turn these challenges into opportunities,” Jensen said in the release. “I am grateful for the dedication and service of all our city’s employees.”
“I will miss my work with the city, but I know we are well-positioned for the future,” he added.
According to the release, Mountain View was one of the first government partners to join San Jose-led GovAI Coalition, which has been a major player in responsible guidance around government use of the technology.
The city noted in its release that a search for his replacement will begin in mid-December.
