A measure mandating state websites to include a hyperlink to the state’s online voter registration system has passed out of it’s first policy committee, making its way through the legislative process.
SB 44 was introduced by Senator Leland Yee, who represents half of San Francisco and San Mateo.
"Whenever there is an election without people&hellip the election is not representative," Yee said last month in an interview with Techwire’s Christina Gagnier. "The public policy will be more rich when more people are participating."
In March, state websites with ca.gov domains received a total of 12.5 million unique visits, according to the California Office of Technology Services.
California tested its online registration system last year on Sept. 19 to Oct. 21. During that time, 1.2 million voters registered, more than half of whom did so through the electronic method.
