The California Department of Aging (CDA) has named Andrea Hoffman as its new chief information officer. Hoffman’s first day is Thursday and her hiring fills a role that had been in recruitment since last fall. Thomas Cameron, the department’s deputy director of administration of three years, has been serving as acting CIO. The department’s most recent permanent CIO was Ken Ketsdever, who held the position from February 2015-December, when he became chief information security officer at the Financial Information System for California (FI$Cal).
“We are thrilled to announce Andrea Hoffman, PMP will be joining CDA as chief information officer – leading the way to bringing all aging service providers (state and local) under one unified system,” the department said in a recent LinkedIn post.
“Thank you everyone!” Hoffman said in a reply on LinkedIn. “I am looking forward to new adventures and helping the CDA program do great things for California!” Her priorities at CDA, Hoffman told Industry Insider — California, will be to “work closely with the business program, local providers and the IT organization to develop a strategy and approach for an enterprise CRM.”
“In addition, I will be developing the IT program and staff to support the Master Plan of Aging IT initiatives,” Hoffman said. “This includes a technology road map to support existing operations as we plan the transition to a centralized statewide CRM solution. I will also be conducting recruitments to fill key positions in enterprise architecture and security.”
Part of CDA’s strategic plan, the department’s Director Susan DeMarois told Industry Insider via email, is to “modernize the department and strengthen local aging networks.”
“We’re thrilled Andrea will be joining CDA in an expanded CIO role that has been elevated to be part of CDA’s executive team,” DeMarois said. “She will guide our work on data collection, technology tools to help older adults and family caregivers, and advise on the Master Plan for Aging.”

There, Hoffman was project director for the Department of Conservation’s Division of Oil, Gas and Geothermal Resources Wells Statewide Tracking and Reporting Project.
