California’s Office of the Inspector General (OIG) is recruiting for a chief information officer (IT Manager II) to lead and manage the agency’s IT domains, including Business Technology Management, Help Desk, Client Data Services, Information Security, Software Development, DevOps, Infrastructure/System Engineering, Quality Assurance and IT Project Management.

The OIG’s mission is providing oversight and transparency and recommending improvements, including through technology, to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Key aspects of the OIG's network include:
  • On-Premises Data Center: A data center comprising VMware virtualized machines, encompassing a range of technologies including Windows Active Directory, Kubernetes and Linux; Cisco blades systems and networking hardware.
  • Client Computing Environment: Mac desktops and laptops, iPads, iPhones and a small number of Windows desktops.
  • Application Development: All application development is conducted in-house, primarily on a LAMP (Linux, Apache, MariaDB, PHP) stack with Kubernetes.
  • IT Infrastructure Management: Management of servers and networking hardware is performed solely by in-house staff.
The incumbent’s responsibilities include:
  • Formulate and implement internal processes to manage the internal operations of the IT Unit.
  • Plan, organize, direct and review the work of the IT team and collaborate and communicate with OIG managers and supervisors to support unit-specific IT initiatives.
  • Act as a liaison with control agencies, vendors and business partners.
  • Manage IT procurement, asset inventory, contracts, software licenses and service agreements.
