Davood Ghods is planning to retire in August, capping more than 25 years in the public sector and a busy year and a half leading the California Office of Technology Services (OTech). Ghods said he’s leaving in order to spend time with his family and care for his parents.
Ghods oversees 600 staff and a $342 million budget at OTech, which provisions servers, application hosting, telecommunications and other IT services for approximately 500 customers in state and local government and education. About 295 of them are state agencies, departments or entities.
Since being appointed OTech’s chief in January 2014, Ghods has been striving to make the office more customer-centric and service-oriented, and grow the number of tenants using CalCloud, the private cloud the state is hosting within its Tier 3 data center.
"CalCloud is really an umbrella that all of our cloud service offerings, such as email, our subscription services and other cloud solutions fall under. It’s the portfolio of our cloud solutions in California, we are calling CalCloud," Ghods said in an interview with Techwire in March.
Prior to joining OTech last year, Ghods was deputy director of enterprise information services at the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation since 2012. He also has served as agency information officer at the California Department of Food and Agriculture, CIO of the Department of Consumer Affairs, assistant director within the Network Systems Division and chief of the Project Management Office at Teale Data Center, and deputy director of technology and infrastructure at the Department of Information Technology – now known as the Department of Technology (CalTech).
Over the years, Ghods also has spent time in the private sector, working at Ernst&Young and Auriga Corp.
