Photos: Microwave Dish Installation

On Tuesday at the top of Mount Vaca between Vacaville and Fairfield, California’s Public Safety Communications Office (PSCO) installed a new satellite dish, part of the Statewide Public Safety Microwave Network consisting of 290 sites around the state. The 50 year-old satellite network provides first responder agencies, such as Cal FIRE, California Highway Patrol and CalTrans, long distance data and voice communications. The system carries more than 1300 circuits and connects over 7,000 air miles of microwave paths, according to PSCO.

The state is working to upgrade the network to a digital system that will carry high speed data to transmit images and text as well as voice communications for federal, state and local users.
