Public Utilities Commission extends broadband infrastructure grants deadline

The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) announced on Thursday that it has extended the deadlines for filing project applications for California Advanced Services Fund (CASF) Broadband Infrastructure grants and loans. The new deadline will coordinate the application filing date and CPUC review with updated mapping data to be published in June 2012.

October 1st, 2012 is the new deadline for projects in unserved areas. The second application window for projects in underserved areas (that are not wholly or partially funded by CASF) is February 1, 2013.

The CPUC will release revised broadband availability maps in June 2012, reflecting data collected from California broadband providers as of December 31, 2011. The CPUC will also be deploying its mobile broadband verification project this month in order to test actual speeds of mobile broadband providers across the state. Prospective CASF applicants, challengers to CASF project applications, CPUC staff reviewing project applications and other interested stakeholders will be able to use this data to confirm or refute mobile provider data.
