Department of State Hospitals CIO Jamie Mangrum will present at the next Techwire Industry Briefing scheduled for Thursday, May 14.

Mangrum has served in a variety of high-profile positions throughout his 15-year tenure with the state of California. He previously was CIO for the Department of General Services, agency information officer (AIO) for the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, and CIO for the Prison Health Care Receiver. Mangrum also is credited with building what’s now considered one of the largest project management offices in state government.

Mangrum has been chief information officer and deputy director for the California Department of State Hospitals (DSH) since 2011. DSH was created by Gov. Jerry Brown’s 2012-13 budget, which eliminated the Department of Mental Health by transferring its various functions to other departments. DSH manages the California state hospital system, which provides mental health services to patients admitted into DSH facilities. DSH oversees five state hospitals (Atascadero, Coalinga, Metropolitan, Napa and Patton) and three psychiatric programs located in state prisons. Through an interagency agreement with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, DSH also treats inmates at prisons in Vacaville, Salinas Valley and Stockton. All eight facilities are fully licensed by the California Department of Public Health and must regularly meet or exceed regulatory standards to continue providing care.

As of 2014, DSH employs more than 11,000 staff and serves more than 6,000 patients in a 24/7 hospital system supported by a $1.6 billion budget.

As part of its Industry Briefing series, Techwire will host Mangrum for a morning-long presentation and question-and-answer session.
