Sac Food mobile app leads to healthy, inspected restaurants

If you find yourself pacing down K Street Mall in Sacramento on the lookout for a place to have your next business lunch, and you want to make sure the options meet your high standard of health and sanitation, there’s an app for that.

Sacramento County just announced an iPhone application for its food inspection mobile website (m.ffi.saccounty.net). Previously, the app was only available for Android devices. Now, Android and iPhone app users alike can use this app to see nearby retail food facilities on a map displaying their current location. All food facilities have a colored marker that indicates the establishment’s most recent food inspection result – green, yellow, or red. The app also displays the inspection date and links to the nearby food facilities. The new iPhone app is free and easily accessible by searching for "Sacramento Food" in the iTunes app store.

The Food Facility Inspection mobile site, as well as the iPhone and Android apps, have also added a new feature – the physical distance from your current location when displaying a list of close facilities.

The apps and mobile website features also allow the users to search for facilities by name, which will display a list of search results in order from closest proximity. The data for the app is refreshed daily, and includes information for all food facilities in Sacramento County. "Food Facilities" are considered facilities that dispense food to the public, such as restaurants, bars, grocery stores, convenience stores, and school cafeterias.

The iPhone and Android app, as well as the mobile website, make it easier for anyone in Sacramento Country to access food inspection data, especially for the growing population of mobile device users who want information on-the-go.
