The nation’s second most populous school district is calling for assistance from IT vendors in “Site-Based Technology Support Services.”

In a request for proposal (RFP) released June 17, the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) seeks “additional proposals from qualified firms for the Site-Based Technology Support Services Bench” — the bench being its “roster of qualified firms to provide the same services.” This, according to the RFP, is a “refresh” of a previous RFP, and contracts awarded under that RFP No. 200002391 are eligible to respond to this RFP, for a new functional area — “legal department support.” LAUSD serves more than 600,000 students across 720 square miles, the country’s second-largest such population behind the New York City Department of Education. Among the takeaways:

  • Qualified proposers can respond in the new or existing functional areas, which are “desktop and cloud-based application support, local server administration and support, and network connected equipment support,” per the RFP. App support includes providing “basic support functions” such as installation and/or redeployment of desktops, laptops, mobile devices, printers and software; troubleshooting, diagnosis and problem resolution; and configurations. Admin and support includes managing computer systems and networks, ensuring preventative maintenance is accomplished, and setting up new users. Equipment support includes installing and maintaining printers, network copiers and scanners, and primary maintenance. Legal department support includes device installation and maintenance, and security to devices, legal materials and document management.
  • Other services may include reviewing and maintaining the “equipment inventory, assessment of equipment for efficiency, life expectancy, capacity, speed, and current processes,” and making recommendations on improving support criteria and “eliminating emergency maintenance situations”; supporting schools during the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress and the Interim Assessment Blocks; managing the salvage equipment process; and some “existing applications at sites” including Microsoft, Adobe and Apple products.
  • Minimum qualifications include at least five years’ experience in “any of the combined areas of IT help desk support, desktop and cloud-based applications support, network connected equipment system support, local server administration, and legal department support” for large commercial entities, school districts or government entities. Respondent’s client base must include at least three clients served in the last three years in “any of the combined areas” noted earlier in this paragraph. Respondent must specify a single point of contact with at least five years’ experience in project management at either large commercial organizations or governmental entities.
  • The RFP’s precise value is not stated; however, “zero dollar (zero-based)” Master Services Agreements (MSA) are set for each firm that is part of the bench — work orders then go to those firms in accordance with MSA terms. Contracts as a result of this RFP will be “coterminous with the existing bench,” which expires Feb. 13, 2027. Funding will be “contingent on fiscal year availability.” Questions on the RFP are due by close of business June 29; responses are due by 12 p.m. July 15. LAUSD Board of Education approval is likely in the September-October timeframe.
