After more than three decades in public service, Sonoma County CIO Dan Fruchey is set to retire.

Dan Fruchey.
In an announcement posted to LinkedIn earlier this week, Fruchey reflected on his career with the regional government. He joined Sonoma County government in 1997, as an IT analyst.

“After 33 years of government service, it’s finally time for me to hang up my access badge and retire!” he wrote. “I can’t say enough good things about the County of Sonoma as an employer and the outstanding people on our Information Systems team (okay, maybe I’m biased).”

Fruchey was named the county’s CIO in 2022 after serving as the assistant information systems director for nearly two years.

In 2024, Fruchey talked to Industry Insider — California about how the county was working to modernize its record system and improve constituent services, and how it was preparing for the next natural disaster in the wake of the devastating Tubbs Fire in 2017.

Now, the county is recruiting for his replacement through Sept. 14.

“If you are looking for a new opportunity, it just happens that we need a new chief information officer! Speaking from years of experience, I highly recommend the job,” he wrote in his announcement.
