State Agencies Seeking IT Architect, Supervisors, Specialists

Expertise with software, mainframes, system architecture and supervisorial duties are among the desirable qualifications for the positions. Application deadlines are this month.

State agencies are recruiting for some noteworthy technology positions, including specialists, supervisors and architects.

The California Department of Technology (CDT) is seeking an IT Specialist I to “act as a technical software support specialist working with a team of highly trained professionals in support of a mainframe and client/server computing environment,” according to the job posting. “Works independently or as a team leader or as a team member. Provides a variety of software support services for customer departments. The incumbent installs, maintains, tests, monitors, and tunes department-wide network and print software solutions and/or general-purpose software products in the mainframe and client/server environments. In addition, designs, configures, and provides ongoing operational support of SNA, VTAM, IP communications and protocols including IP security within the Communication Server services of the platform.” In addition, according to the duty statement for the position, “This position requires a knowledge of operating systems and related software as well as network communication and print functions as implemented on the various hardware platforms. The IT Spec I must be familiar with the desktop environment.” The position has a monthly salary range of $5,297 to $8,826, and the application deadline is July 24.

CDT is also recruiting for a Systems Engineer (IT Specialist I) to oversee and maintain the operational health of CDT’s Statewide Data Center Network, according to the job posting. The IT Specialist “will provide support on a variety of complex 2nd level network support services, which include troubleshooting incidents, network equipment installation, and project assignments. This will include analysis, coordination, and response with customers, vendors, and other CDT personnel.” The monthly salary range is $5,297 to $8,570, and the application deadline is July 24.

The Department of State Hospitals is recruiting for an Enterprise Architect (IT Specialist II) to work in the Business Analytics Unit, serving “as a recognized senior technical specialist responsible for various architecture tasks including Business Architecture, Application Architecture, Data Architecture, Technology Architecture, Strategic Planning and Governance,” according to the job posting. “The Enterprise Architect (EA) acts as the project leader on the planning, development, implementation, and maintenance of Department of State Hospitals architectures. The EA partners with business and IT teams to understand business needs and develop solutions for the best use of the most complex IT assets to meet business objectives. The EA develops and evolves artifacts (such as reference models, standards, processes, architectural assessments and road maps) and performs the necessary leadership, analysis and design tasks required to develop components of DSH's enterprise solution architecture.” The position has a monthly salary range of $7,014 to $9,399, and the application deadline is July 24.

The State Controller’s Office is seeking an IT Supervisor II to “lead and manage a two-shift Production Operations unit, within the Enterprise System Operations and Support section,” the job posting says. “The Production Operations (PO) unit is responsible for processing the State Controller’s Office (SCO) employment history, payroll, and financial batch systems from a dedicated computer, which is located at the California Department of Technology (CDT). Desirable qualifications include:

  • Firm foundation in IBM Operating Systems with a minimum of five years of IT supervisory experience.
  • Keen understanding of Disaster Recovery principles, methods, and practices.
  • Broad knowledge of mainframe infrastructure, process execution, tools, software installation, and automation.
The position has a monthly salary range of $6,917 to $9,268, and the application deadline is July 27.

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) is seeking an Institution Field Support Supervisor (IT Supervisor II) to “improve collaboration and execute IT service delivery to various programs” that support the department’s mission, according to the job posting. The supervisor “will perform lead functions within the Customer Service and Field Operations (CSFO). This position includes planning, implementing projects, executing new technologies into the environment, and daily IT support within the institution.” In addition, the job posting says: “This position manages the problem resolution process within an adult institution, including; incident/service request process, escalation process, desktop support functions, and project management activities. Management functions include, but are not limited to, assigning and coordinating the work related to service disruptions and incidents, equipment installation, the enforcement of workstation standards, asset inventory management, problem management, reporting, and mobile (wireless) device administration as well as personnel related administration.” This position has a monthly salary range of $6,917 to $9,268, and the application deadline is July 28.   

CDCR is also seeking an IT Specialist I to serve as a project leader for the Desktop Advanced Research Team’s Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager team. The IT Specialist “works on the most complex information technology system problems, and independently performs the most complex studies and activities on the most complex information technology and network systems,” the job posting says. The monthly salary range is $5,297 to $8,570, and the application deadline is July 28.

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) is recruiting for an Application and System Architect (IT Specialist I) to “work independently as a recognized technical specialist on maintenance, operation, defect resolution, enhancements, and replacement of complex statewide systems,” according to the job posting. The IT Specialist “will function as the technical subject matter expert, be responsible for some the CDPH’s most visible and mission critical application and database systems including the eWIC MIS/EBT (Windows and Oracle on Enterprise Linux), eWIC WRAD (Tableau), Mobile Applications (iOS/Android), Vendor WIC Information Exchange Web and FTP, WIC Information Exchange (Business Objects), Mobile Web Application, CDPH/CHHS Open Data, the legacy Women Infants Children Management Information System (zOS and DB2), and other CDPH Program MIS database systems.” The monthly salary range is $5,297 to $8,570, and the application deadline is July 28.
