The state Department of Developmental Services is recruiting for a technical security officer (IT specialist II) to work as an architectural network/cloud security engineer under the direction of the department’s chief information security officer.

The technical security officer (TSO) leads the Information Security Office technical team and is responsible for oversight of state and federal compliance standards for secure network design, review of security and recovery plans, overseeing monitoring of network operations, and planning the implementation of new security systems, according to the job posting.

The TSO “is expected to build tools and automation to minimize manual operations and craft repeatable processes for event monitoring and threat response to support a high availability infrastructure,” the posting says. “In addition, the incumbent has oversight for the secure migration of hosted clients to Amazon Web Services (AWS) through architectural review, compliance monitoring and network security.” The TSO will lead the department’s response for oversight of policy exceptions, and will review security compliance of Project Management Office projects, oversight of incident response plans and establishing security best practices.

The duties of the job include cloud security (40 percent), network security (40 percent), training and knowledge transfer (15 percent), and other duties (5 percent).
