A massive project to integrate data on budgeting, accounting, procurement and cash management from 156 state departments will take an additional year to complete and cost another $56 million, according to a report released Wednesday by California Auditor Elaine Howle.
The $672.6 million FI$Cal project, known as the Enterprise Resource Planning project, "will benefit from additional time to execute the project’s testing of statewide control functions and gain user acceptance," Howle said in a letter delivered to Gov. Jerry Brown and the Legislature.
Howle is required to release an annual status letter on project and make recommendations. She noted the project has reinvigorated its risk management practices and made substantial progress in reducing staff vacancies – two major concerns outlined in last year’s report.
The first wave of the project will launch with 14 departments going live this July. Read the entire status letter here.
