State Labor Agency Recruiting for Top IT Executive

The agency information officer works with the chief information officers and IT offices within the agency, which encompasses the Employment Development Department, the Department of Industrial Relations, and the Public Employment Relations Board, among others.

The state Labor and Workforce Development Agency, which oversees seven departments, boards and panels that serve employers and workers, is recruiting for an agency information officer (Career Executive Assignment).

The agency information officer (AIO) works with the chief information officers (CIOs) and IT offices within the agency, which encompasses the Employment Development Department, the Department of Industrial Relations, the Public Employment Relations Board and the Agricultural Labor Relations Board, among others.

The AIO, according to the job posting and duty statement, is responsible for IT strategic planning and direction; technology tactical and capital planning; enterprise technology architecture; IT budgeting, contracting and purchasing; IT security; and all technology policies, standards and practices. The AIO will oversee multimillion-dollar technology projects and be responsible for maintaining a collaborative relationship with the state CIO and the technology-related control agencies, according to the duty statement.

Responsibilities of this executive position include:
  • Advise the LWDA secretary, undersecretary and department CIOs on significant policies centering on business processes, operational programs and IT resources. Formulate, analyze, revise, interpret and evaluate IT business processes and programs. Oversee departmental management of information assets, projects, data systems and services.
  • Provide high-level expertise in developing legislative and budget proposals and new programs in IT. Help develop and evaluate proposed state legislation to assess the impact of IT on business processes and operational programs. Participate in meetings and negotiations about program and IT issues with legislative and executive branch staff, local government officials and constituent organizations.
  • Plan, develop, organize and administer IT resources. Review and monitor departmental IT strategic planning documents and monitor major and minor IT project plans.

The position has a monthly salary range of $11,102 to $13,226, and the application deadline is April 26.
