State, Large City Recruiting for Deputy Director, Project Manager

Both are key stakeholder positions with responsibilities that include managing others and advising policy-makers.

A major state department and a large Southern California city are recruiting for noteworthy positions.

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) is seeking a Deputy Director for the Office of Research.

The Deputy Director (no job classification) “provides policy guidance and leadership for the department’s research program and establishes, interprets and implements research projects that assess the effectiveness of correctional programs and initiatives,” the job listing says. “The Deputy Director is responsible for setting the departmental research priorities; identifying and recommending programmatic changes within the department as a result of research outcomes and findings; and collaborating with adult criminal and juvenile justice researchers, practitioners, departmental administrators and policymakers on research innovations, designs and outcomes. The Deputy Director is also responsible for providing direction and guidance on data quality matters and developing a consistent process for proper data dissemination to members of the public.”

The other responsibilities of this position include:

  • Oversee requests for information and production of reports using CDCR’s offender management system and other data sources. Oversight for CDCR’s comparable statistics (COMPSTAT) and other management reports utilized to gauge field compliance and performance.
  • Oversee CDCR’s population projections for a multitude of areas including inmate population, parolee population and mental health bed needs.
  • Serve as the department’s representative on matters involving criminal justice research and evaluation. Collaborates with local, state and federal agencies, academic, private research organizations, and practitioners on significant research projects that impact the operations of state or federal criminal justice agencies. Meet with legislators and other policymakers regarding research studies that may have a significant impact on California’s correctional and rehabilitative programs and operations. Manage the department’s research staff and coordinate the equipment, training, IT and other support they need to conduct their research.
  • Serve as a member of the department’s executive team and participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of strategic and operational plans. 
  • Serve as a key stakeholder in the department’s data governance process and provide guidance on data quality matters.
  • Review policies and procedures for disseminating data to members of the public and ensures data is shared appropriately. 
The monthly salary range for this position is $11,760 to $13,098, and the application deadline is Feb. 6.

The city of Oxnard is recruiting for an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Project Manager in the IT Department with strong technical and customer service skills. The position, which has a Systems Analyst III classification, is the advanced journey-level class responsible for overseeing network/information systems support functions and handling administrative duties such as scheduling support calls, negotiating contracts with vendors and monitoring equipment inventories and supplies as well as budget expenditures.

Responsibilities include:

  • Establishes and maintains policies for the security and safety of network systems; assigns work to technical staff, monitors work activities to ensure work quality and accuracy; ensures compliance to applicable laws, policies and procedures.
  • Analyzes network functions and systems to determine the feasibility and application of network data communications technologies and determine appropriate, cost-effective alternatives for network; manages inquiries and requests made relative to network and PC systems at user sites throughout the city.
  • Reviews and evaluates department/division requests for computer equipment and software; negotiates and finalizes purchases from vendors; coordinates all testing of software before installation; supervises the installation of hardware; determines necessary preventative and corrective equipment maintenance.
  • Oversees and performs network systems management including performance reviews of network security architecture, information security administration and policy; evaluates, implements and maintains new network hardware and software applications; prepares activity and progress reports regarding project activities.
The position has an annual salary range of $80,579 to $133,640, according to the job posting, and the recruitment is ongoing until the position is filled.
